STEM Program Introduced | Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall Senior Living Community

March 13, 2024

The creation of exploding snowmen, fake snow, and tin foil boats…these are just the beginning.

The first few activities of a newly launched program at Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall have been a great success. In the Lab with Lil is a new bi-monthly get-together that has brought hands-on STEM offerings to residents of the senior living community in Wilmington.

Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall already offered its residents a full schedule of engaging and fun programming. “I realized that we have a variety of programs for the arts and music but didn’t have a lot that were science related. Some of our residents worked in science fields before they retired, so I felt this class would be something new and fun for everyone to try,” said Lily Poulos, Life Enrichment Assistant.

Lily introduced In the Lab with Lil a couple of months ago and has drawn anywhere from twelve to twenty residents each session. Upcoming projects will include creating borax crystal shamrocks and plastic egg rockets. “I like collaborating with the residents and getting their suggestions on what they enjoy most,” Lily said.
