Thalian Hall Center for Performing Arts is an 1858 opera house that hosts plays, concerts, lectures and cinema, and Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center holds a 1500-seat auditorium which provides an additional stage for a variety of cultural events. Historical attractions include tours of the USS North Carolina Battleship, and horse-drawn carriage rides narrated by entertaining and knowledgeable hosts.

Among midtown’s attractions is The Cameron Art Museum, an architecturally renowned facility that offers rotating exhibits, arts classes and programs for all ages. Just 20 miles south is the Civil War stronghold Fort Fisher, where a museum and gallery chronicle its significance.
