Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall in Wilmington, North Carolina Wins Second Consecutive Wellness Award

For the second consecutive year, the commitment of the team at Carolina Bay, has been recognized for promoting wellness, which is integral to their culture. The independent living community in Wilmington, North Carolina, has been awarded the 2024 ICAA NuStep Beacon Award. This honor recognizes North America’s Top 25 “Best in Wellness” senior living communities.

Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall is a luxury senior living rental community offering independent living that supports a vibrant lifestyle for active older adults. The Beacon Award is a joint initiative between the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and NuStep, LLC. ICAA is a leader in connecting and defining the active-aging industry. NuStep manufactures fitness equipment that is widely used in healthcare, senior living, and fitness.

The prestigious award celebrates the top senior living communities that have embraced wellness. In doing so, these communities are positively impacting the opportunities for seniors to age in active and enhanced ways. To Carolina Bay, wellness is defined as being the holistic integration of physical, nutritional, spiritual, social, and intellectual dimensions, resulting in an optimal level of well-being. “In order to ensure that our residents’ needs are met, our Life Enrichment and Wellness departments work very closely to collaborate on all programming and events” said Madison Norris, Wellness Director.

Carolina Bay is proud to have been a leader in creating and integrating wellness initiatives since it’s opening in 2015. The senior living community has long recognized that wellness is best achieved by implementing a holistic approach. Their INSPIRE program, which was developed by Liberty Senior Living, almost 10 years ago, is a multi-faceted initiative reflecting all dimensions of wellness (as shown in its acronym: Inclusive, Nutritional, Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Recreational, and Engaging.)

“Using this foundation ensures that wellness is a part of every aspect of life at Carolina Bay,” said Samantha Johnson, Life Enrichment Director. “Our committed team provides a variety of engaging and energetic opportunities for our residents including, educational lectures, musical performances, community outings, fresh and healthy dining options, and 30 weekly group exercise classes.” 

Some of the highlights of Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall’s wellness endeavors include Parkinson’s programming, line dancing, cardio drumming, water aerobics, balance classes and many more. “It is an honor to be able to provide such a wide variety of programming to our residents to keep them active and engaged. We take pride in creating specific activities and classes that are personalized to fit their specific needs and interests” said Norris.  Carolina Bay’s annual Olympics Week brings residents together in a community wide competition featuring various activities. There is something for everyone to take part in at Carolina Bay!
